Delicate flavoring

Greetings,

Yesterday as I was working on putting in cutaways for my project I realized that the narrative is so strong that anything I put in to cover jump cuts or amplify what is being said needs to be subtle. It needs to create a delicate flavoring to the piece; what I've noticed is that in too many documentaries filmmakers tend to put in too many cutaways which in my opinion is used as a crutch because the filmmaker thinks that the narrative that is constructed is not strong enough to hold its own. Plus I am a firm believer that the viewer's imagination needs to be engaged.

Oh yeah, I've decided that I am going to submit this movie to Sundance. And while it's doubtful it will be accepted I look at it this way. It's like a first date, it will cost a fair amount of money and most likely you won't get anywhere but I think it will be a good experience nevertheless.
